Toaster

As a Brit, toast is a daily ritual. Beans, eggs, whatever the morning demands. In 2019, RenderWeekly ran a toaster design challenge and I couldn't resist.

The concept is simple: a toaster shaped like a loaf of bread, with a radial dial integrated directly into the lever for setting toast time in seconds. The form is playful but functional, collapsing control and actuation into a single gesture. In hindsight, the integrated dial presents a usability challenge: pushing the lever down could inadvertently twist the dial, changing your toast time. It would need tactile detents or resistance at each increment to prevent accidental adjustment. Still solvable, but worth noting.

Completed in roughly a day. Sketches lost to time, renders survived.
